What is Wordle?

Wordle is a free once-a-day word puzzle. You get six tries to guess a hidden five-letter word, and after every guess the tiles change colour to steer you: green means the letter is correct and in the right spot, yellow means it belongs to the word but sits somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all. Everyone in the world is solving the very same word each day.

How to use this page

Stuck partway through today's puzzle? You do not have to spoil the whole thing. Start with the gentle hints above and open them one at a time — each nudges you a little closer without handing over the answer. When you are ready, uncover the solution letter by letter, or reveal it all at once. Nothing on this page touches your streak in the official game.

Quick tips for a stronger start

Open with a word rich in vowels and common letters, such as CRANE, SLATE or AUDIO.
Spend your second guess on five brand-new letters instead of repeating ones you have already ruled out.
Mind repeated letters: a yellow and a grey of the same letter together tell you exactly how many times it appears.
